The Amazing Spider-Man 30th Anniversary Issue was the first comic I had ever owned. The special issue had everything: The origin of Spider-Man flashback, the Lizard as the main villain, and the death of Gwen Stacey. I must’ve read that thing at least a hundred times as a child. Fast forward to 2012, The Amazing Spider-Man is now coming to theaters involving the same story as the early comics.
Now, I never “hated” the Sam Raimi films, but it wasn’t the Spider-Man I remember as a kid. The Spider-Man I remember wasn’t such a “happy nerd,” like Toby Maguire portrayed in the films. Spider-Man had a very tragic life. Also Toby’s Peter Parker never really had the sense of humor that the comic book Spider-Man had. A wise crackin, witty jokester that uses his sense of humor as a crutch to get over the tragedies of his life.
